Bee Life

I have been compelled to make three dimensional layered prints. The sculptural nature of the work provides the viewer with an opportunity for exploration and discovery. I physically layer prints over each other, having cut out different patterns to reveal the imagery below. Each patterned cut relates to that different habitat. The outer layers invoke camouflage and chaotic movement. Through progressive layers, the focal point of the piece becomes more organized and focused. Weaving through their layers one reaches a structured realm filled with determination, purpose, and survival. These pieces offer a picture of line, movement, and texture integrated in such a way to display uniformity and chaos, continuity and community.

This series focuses on bees. I considered how they created their homes, their natural instinct for congregation and their ability to preserve in nature. I see the inner workings of the community and the bee' interaction with their habitat.
